Hi, my name is Mike, I'm 39 years old, from Perth, Australia. I've been fly fishing since I was 15, yet surprisingly only started fly tying about 10 years ago since moving to Canada. In Australia, I spent most of my time fishing saltwater in the Indian Ocean, where there are no Salmon.
I mostly tie fishing flies for Steelhead and Pacfic Salmon for my own pleasure and relaxation.
Moving to Canada is what brought me to the Atlantic Salmon fly, catching Steelhead on pacific north west patterns from Roderick Haig-Brown to Syd Glasso and traditional Dee fly patterns from the namesake river in Scotland. I have progressively moved towards the Classic Atlantic salmon fly for both its beauty and ability to land fish. I am lucky to have mentors in fly tying for the plethora of fishing situations I experience.
Art is familiar to me; I collect vinyl records, DJ, host radio and have produced music, and been a part of the music industry for many years so I understand functionality within art.
Healthly living is important in my life, I am Paleo, exercise frequently and enjoy cooking. I also enjoy a good wine.
I will be at ASFI 2018 and hope to see you there.
